Hypoglycemia Happenstance
It is truly amazing how one event can change your life journey.
While studying at Florida Atlantic University, I felt destined
to become an anthropologist. I participated in archaeological digs
in Ecuador and I had taken a plethora of courses on the subject.
However, throughout my studies, I was in a constant battle with
my body – the debilitating effects of hypoglycemia were permeating
every aspect of my life and the symptoms were becoming intolerable.
As I learned more about the disease, I realized that my hypoglycemia
was nudging me on to the path to nutrition.
The path to nutrition snuck up on me in an innocent manner – at
a bookstore. I had a penchant for studying in bookstores away from
the daily hustle and bustle on campus, when I stumbled upon a book
titled Prescription for Nutritional Healing. As I pushed my biological
anthropology book aside, I read the book with wide-eyes, an open
mind, and an indefatigable determination to learn about how to
control what had been plaguing my life for years. Up to that point,
I had only followed what my family physician had advised me to
do, which was simply to eat small meals throughout the day. However,
my doctor, and the myriad physicians I visited afterwards, had
failed to tell me the type of foods I should have been avoiding,
which was the key to controlling my disease.(more)
